 Today we have Plain Front here for an interview and to show off the new album cover for their upcoming self-titled album, which is set to release in January.
Sebastian: 12 Dominik: We originally wanted to do around 20 to 15, but then we lost focus on the project and started recording YWEIYS. Sebastian: Yeah, and when we went back to it, we were like, these songs are pretty fucking terrible. *everyone laughs* Sebastian: So we kept songs we liked and recorded new ones. Randy: So what was the goal with this album? Gus: A Back to Our Roots Project. Sebastian: Yeah, we wanted to go back to our punk and metal roots after our debut album, so one half of the album is like that, with the other half still being close to our roots but with more of the YWEIYS style and sound. Randy: Will there be a story like the last one? Sebastian: Not really, no. Cade: Yeah, kinda... I mean, the album gets split into two parts for the more punk stuff and the newer sound, so sort of yes and no on both parts. Randy: What happened to the EP you guys were going to release that had the unreleased songs from YWEIYS? Sebastian: We put them into this album for the second half. Randy: Alright, last question: do you guys think that this next album will top your last? Sebastian: In some aspects, yes, but in terms of being a better album, that's up for the people to decide. I think we're all personally happy with it, but I think we all agree that YWEIYS is our masterpiece and can't really be topped in that aspect. Dominik: It's pretty rare for a band to really blow up with their debut album, like Pearl Jam, Panic at the Disco, or Weezer- Gus: We basically stole their album cover, by the way. *the band laughs* Dominik: But yeah, it's rare for bands to blow up on their first album, so for those reasons, it's a masterpiece, and we were happy to see people agree since we were worried we would lose fans because of it, but we were happy to see people liked the new style we went with.  Wassup ALCATEIA, welcome to the POM Records podcast! ALCATEIA is the Brazilian metal band, part musicians, part wolves, making waves here on the label and have just recently released their EP called SURVIVE. The band has also recently discussed some information about their vocalist. We wanted to hear more about the band and this release. So today we have two of their members here to chat a bit.  Arthur (Guitarist) Hi guys, it's just me and Gabriel, Bruno and David went to Manchester, England, for our next plans.  Gabriel (Bassist) Hi guys, we're happy to be here again.  Randy (POM Records) Last time we heard from Alcateia, you released the heavy as hell C.O.F.F.I.N album in collaboration with Objctve. Tell us about that. Did that have any influence on your latest release SURVIVE? Gabriel Yes, we did, we actually took some ideas from Coffin and Eternal Torment for the songs Bleed and Survive, but we were more focused on making Nu Metal. Randy Tell us about the song writing process on SURVIVE and the concept behind the album. What was it like? Arthur We started coming up with ideas for the songs on the EP 3 months ago. We wrote Bleed first, then Conflict, and we thought of a whole EP focused on Nu Metal and feelings like the conflicts we have in our lives, the pain a liar feels after his consequences hit him and things like that. About the main track, we wrote it after Bryan went to the clinic to quit his addictions, that was a month ago. Randy We heard the news about Bryan. How is the rest of the band doing? It seems like some rough times but also very good times too because SURVIVE is getting good reviews by fans & the media. We also saw songs being played on POM TV. How have fans been treating this release? Gabriel The rest of us are fine, we don't have so many problems with drugs, we only drink alcohol, but Arthur would drink alcohol if he could. (laughs) Arthur (*Shows middle finger to Gabriel and smiles*) Well, our fans are enjoying the EP, we're happy about that, and we have other plans to release this year, and our next release isn't far away. Randy What are the next plans for the band? Arthur Well, our next plans for the band are a new release, we won't reveal too much about it, but we think you'll like it. Randy Thank you for this talk with us here at POM RECORDS. What's a message you want to leave for anyone reading? Gabriel All I want to say is that Arthur is.... very flamboyant.. Over the past few months the band has been busy touring as well as going through some personal life changes. We just wanted to take this time to address a few points and let you all know what’s been going on with us.
Firstly, we want to thank everyone for the wonderful feedback we’ve received regarding our latest releases. We’re stoked with the positive reception from our 5th album, our first studio release in 10 years! We also re-released “The Show” for its 10 year anniversary as well as our newest song “iPledge”. Everyone had amazing things to say and we couldn’t thank you all enough! Which brings us to our next point. Earlier this year we announced a new 5 song EP, “This Is How the World Will End”. We teased it with a cover of Sum 41’s “Thanks for Nothing”, and while we were happy with that song and it’s reception, the rest of the EP didn’t give us the same vibe. As artists, we’re constantly pushing ourselves to be better and we’re always trying to outdo ourselves with every release. Unfortunately, we as a band felt that this EP was a step backwards, a step in the wrong direction. As a result, we’ve decided to cancel its release and instead release “Thanks for Nothing” as a single. We apologize to anyone that was looking forward to the EP, but we promise we’ll make up for it in the future (hint hint). Another point we want to talk about is the departure of our lead guitarist and good friend Brian. Brian has been with the band since “The Show” and our friend for even longer. He’s also been a big contributor in the song writing process and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. (To clarify, there is no beef in this situation in the slightest. Just a personal decision that we 100% support.) Alright, we’ll spill. Since we’re no longer working on the EP, we’ve been taking some time to get into the creative zone. We’ve got some pretty cool ideas cooking, and we’re thinking about dropping a new album next year (2024). Randy: You guys signed to POM Records recently and got a lot of attention, in fact you are the most popular page on the site. How it is? David: It's a feeling of relief and accomplishment. But we're only at the beginning, there's a lot ahead of us. Arthur: For me it's a feeling of responsibility, because we have to deliver what people expect from Alcateia, and our idea is to make a sound inspired by Nu-Metal and Alternative Metal. Randy: So Plain Front really pissed off their neighbors and you guys are going to Canada to do the show with them. This is amazing and kind of crazy. Seriously, "Fuck the neighbors" haha. Tell us about it! Bruno: I think it will be a new and amazing experience that will make us improve our albums more and more. Gabriel: I'm excited for this, I'm really going to enjoy playing with the Plain Front guys, City X, Special Ed and Faceless Culture. Thank you Plain Front for inviting us! Randy: What's next for you guys? You guys have a lot to prove because there's a lot of good Brazilian metal out there, like The Divine Grace Beyond Gravity on The Corner. People are excited to hear your howls, I mean vocals! Arthur: Well... the Demo with vocals will have 4 songs, Fuck The World and Mute from the EP and two new tracks with lyrics inspired by Death and Black Metal, Help Me and Black Priest, they said we're going to play Mute, Help Me and Black Preist at the Plain Front show, I'm really looking forward to it as it's going to be our first live show. Randy: Damn, what an insane big budget video! Social Asylum is one of the biggest and best music videos we've seen from Faceless Culture! Tell us about the behind-the-scenes! Faceless Culture: So with the success of Prisoner of Eternity and with how successful this new album is, all this money we've made we decided to put it back towards production. This is the best video we've made and not sure how my family is gonna eat this weekend but we'll worry about it later! Randy: Architect of Destruction has been out for a little over 3 weeks now. What's the reception been like? How are fans responding? It feels like your best album and that's crazy because it's hard to top Prisoner of Eternity. What are your thoughts? Faceless Culture: The reaction to Architect has been great. Definitely more than we expected. We didn't think we could top the Prisoner album but it's hard to not put out new music for the fans. We're gonna be like this forever it feels like. As long as the fans stick around, we'll still be here! Randy: Faceless Culture is the biggest and most successful band with POM Records. You guys have a huge legacy with the label and well connected with many of the other label mates, like 1st Assault. What's it been like to be on the label since signing back in late 2012? Do you guys feel like you're at your best now? Maybe you guys can take on Metallica! Haha Faceless Culture: We'll never be able to take on Metallica lol. I don't see any competition to be the best on the label but I definitely feel like we're one of the bests. It just feels great to be on the label for over 10 years and to be an inspiration to all the upcoming artists whether they're on the label or not, that's what means the most and keeps us going. Randy: How's touring going? Any cool or fun stories so far? Also anymore videos for the album? Faceless Culture: Touring has been good. I'd have a million stories to tell if I could remember them. I've got to cut down on the drinking maybe possibly. And we got some more vids coming for the album too. We plan on capturing a full performance and fully editing it and getting it on YouTube in the future. We got a European tour coming soon that we can't wait to announce the guests coming with us. Will be great. Randy: We heard some fans are getting in trouble because they've been blasting the album so loud around the country. Whatcha have to say to all the fans grabbing the latest album? Faceless Culture: If you're getting in trouble for blasting the new album, you may not be playing it loud enough. I don't know I'm not a doctor haha. We're grateful for the continued support from Untamed all the way to Architect of Destruction. We salute y'all for sticking around with us. Randy: Alright, thank you guys for the interview. Randy (POM Records): What inspired you guys to create this album? Sebastian Lukens: Well... Recently after our success we've been getting people coming up to us for pictures and all that stuff and its given me extreme anxiety as well now because me & my friends are people with eyes on them constantly now, and that's even more stressful because we're still in high school... I love all my fans and our supporters because we wouldn't be here without them but.. its just kinda stressful when we're just trying to go out and hang out and just take a break from the band for a little while, even Cade dyed his hair from green back to his natural color to kinda be out in public more without getting noticed as much. Also personal stuff in my life is kind of rough at the moment so this album has been me and my friends letting our emotions out into our art instead of bottling it up. Randy: What are some of the themes we can expect with this upcoming album? Sebastian: A lot of dark shit *chuckles* Me and Alec from City X were talking about albums we wanted to make and me and him had a lot of the same stuff he kinda wants to do. Don't quote me on that because I don't know if they'll release something like this so its not conformed, the themes for this album deal with suicide, heartbreak, mental disorders, and just beating yourself up constantly for shit you do.. Randy: How many songs will be on this album? Sebastian: Right now we have 10 but more could come but we don't know. Maybe we'll release a deluxe edition for people who want to hear the unreleased songs because we have a lot. Randy: Will we see more singles release off the album before the album release? Sebastian: Yes! We want to release either one more or two more singles we aren't for sure yet so we have to see what our manager says. Randy: Wyatt from League of Nations said that League of Nations and Plain Front are working on a split, is this true? Sebastian: Yeah! I was about to say some stuff about it. I wanted to do a split with a band I respected and enjoyed the talent behind and League of Nations was one I wanted to do it with, when I heard Worlds Collide I loved the band and its one of my favorite albums. When we were working on our album the band just so happened to be at the studio so I asked them if they wanted to do it and they we're down! we haven't finished it yet so no release date at the moment. Randy: Speaking of release date, does this new album have a release date yet? Sebastian: Not yet probably will be released half way through March but we're not sure yet. Randy: What's it like being apart of a big label with a lot of influential bands that you could work with? Sebastian: We're really thankful for Sushi signing us to this label and liking our music and just giving us a chance to be something big. I've said in another interview that im not really proud of SSDT (Super Secret Demo Tape) because its songs we're early songs we've made but the more I listen to it the more I appreciate it but I wanted to make this album as good as we could and I think we did it. Randy: Alright last question! I wanted to ask what ended up being the first song you wrote for this new album? Sebastian: Umm... It was probably either Devils Advocate II or the first song called in my diary I wrote. With Devils Advocate we we're just jamming and messing around with sounds and we ended up with something we really liked so we recorded and got it all mixed and mastered. For in my diary I wrote we made a song thats thats unreleased at this time and when we played the ending cords it just spoke to me and Gus, so we recorded it... I actually played the drums & guitar on that song and Gus played bass & guitar because Dominik and Cade we're out playing football for school and we skipped to work on music.
