A Humble Beginning (Hero of War)
Poetic was started when a kid named Ryan Poe, who was then 15, wanted to start a band up. He contacted his friends, and brought in his brother, and started up a band. After much discussion, the band decided to call themselves the Heroes of Our Times.
Ryan Poe (Age 15)
The lead guitarist and the creator of the band. Ryan always had a knack for coming up with crazy ideas. Once, he tried to use aluminum foil and a cardboard box to use solar energy to cook an egg. Much to everybody’s surprise, it was a success. Ryan has an intense love for music, he always wanted to perform professionally for all of his life. His goal with the band? To hit the big times. Colin Poe (age 13) The drummer and the youngest member of the band. Colin is known as being a jerk to a lot of people, including his teacher and parents. As his older brother, Ryan thought that what would be best for Colin, is to find a way to take his anger out on other things. He found that his brother is calm when he plays drums, his best instrument. His goal with the band? He doesn’t have one, he’s just there cause Ryan said so. |
Jordan Cox (age 17)
The bass player and oldest member of the band. He's a smooth talking, fast walking, all-around ladies man. He had played bass for a previous band in the past, named Irish Stampede, and was a huge member of the group. After they had broken up, he just focused on women. After time though, the girls lost interest in him, and started to go elsewhere. His goal with the band? To get the girls to look at him as their man again. Mike Starr (age 16) The rhythm guitarist and quietest member of the band. Not much is truly known about Mike other than he is quiet, and plays guitar. The reason he is quiet to most of the world is because he doesn’t think they will understand him and his ideals. His goal with the band? To get to be known by his peers. |
The Original Band in Poe's Garage
Together, these guys worked on music, and started to play for their school at the talent show. They were a huge success at the show, and were featured at the end again as the encore. A member of Little Town Records, Mr. William Smead, was at this show, and was very impressed with the band. He told the guys “listen, if you guys can go and make some samples and record your songs, I think that my guys would love to hear your stuff and maybe get you a deal with the record label. So what do you guys say?” The band huddled together, each stating a reason why they thought it was a great idea, Ryan for becoming known, Jordan for the women, Mike for the money, and Colin for no reason whatsoever.
They signed the paper and went off to work on music. They wrote 3 songs and recorded them. Ryan asked the band, “hey guys, what do you think we should name the songs and album.” Colin then answered “we should call this album the Hero Trilogy, as for the band name, and the amount of songs.” The band came to agree with that name, and went on to name the songs Birth Of A Hero, Rise to Battle, and The Battle Rages On. They mailed the songs to Mr. Smead and much to their surprise he loved them. “The record label has decided to give you guys a 3 album deal!” said Mr. Smead on the telephone to Ryan. Ryan was too busy screaming at the time to answer back to him, so Mr. Smead just hung up the phone and left.
As soon as they possibly could, Heroes of Our Time started working on music. They worked out 4 new songs, added the 3 from the hero trilogy, and added 3 more from their previous works. Ryan then asked the band, “What should we call this album.” Mike, who was mostly quiet during everything the band usually does, stood up and said, “during the times that our world is in, all we ever hear about is war, war, war. It never ends, we only stand here and hope that it will be over soon, but it never is… These songs make me think about all that is good, and all that war has to offer. That is why I believe that calling this “Hero of War” would be a reasonable idea.” The band agreed with the name of the album, and the Hero of War was born.

Commercial Success (Hero of War 2.0)
Hero of War was met with much great praise, from around the school, and later around the world. As Heroes of Our Time were too young, they were not allowed to tour outside of the state. Bands from around offered to play the music live as they wanted to work with the band more. While Heroes of Our Time did not allow this, it did help them to come up with the idea to create a updated version of their album, and allow other bands to help with the process. The result was the album called Hero of War 2.0. This album was twice as long as the original album, and featured artists from around the world such as The FenderBenders, and Spectre’s Army. This was met with huge success, and pushed Heroes of Our Time into a brand new spotlight.
Building Further and Breaking down (Life's New Adventure)
2 years had passed since Hero of War had been released, and the band had changed drastically since it began. Ryan Poe, now 17, was starting to look at colleges and figuring out his future. Jordan Cox, now 19, was faced with multiple issues when he went to college, and returned after less than a year. That year had changed him for the worst though, as he is now rude and egotistical. Mike Starr had been called a “SuperStarr” by some of his fans, and has been getting contacted about leading gigs in bands such as The What You Says, and The Blue Beasts. He was still with Heroes of Our Time, but we were unsure for how much longer that would last. Colin Poe had grown up a bunch and has become much more mature. He has become a Co-leader of the band, and was a huge hit with many of the people around the state.

As many of the members of the band lives had started to change, they had decided that the second album would be called “Life’s New Adventure.” They had created a total of 6 songs for the album when The Incident occurred. While performing at Sophie’s Steakhouse, Colin was struck in the hand by a thrown glass bottle, breaking it. The band ran away quickly as possible to avoid further injury, but the damage was already done. Colin had to sit out for the remainder of the year. Jordan, who then started fighting over the incident, saying that Ryan should replace his brother in the band with somebody with “Real Talent” it was then that Ryan and Colin both decided that Jordan had changed too much and he was kicked out of the band. Soon after the news of this, Mike Starr left the band in favor of The Michigan Fists. Heroes of Our Time were no more.
Contacting his friends The FenderBenders, The duo Poe’s finished the album and renamed it “Hero of War 2: Life’s New Adventure.” While the album was a success, it was met with much lower expectations than the previous album.
A year went by, and it was time for Ryan to leave for college. Colin, whose hand was fully healed, wanted to come and perform with him, but Ryan said, “You need to finish your schooling as well brother. Please, do that for me. Ryan left to go to William Penn University, and Colin stayed behind, determined to finish his schooling, and join his brother and create a band yet again.

Birth of a New Band (Darkness Falls)
Ryan is now in college, and has started his music education. While he hasn’t been treated to well by many people, he has found some people who he can call his friends. Together they recreated the band Heroes of Our Time.
J.D. Williams (age 20)
The bands second guitarist and video director. One of the biggest things Ryan pushed for during his time with the original version of the band was to create videos, but most of the members thought that was just a stupid idea. Now in college, Ryan wants it to be the way they get their music out. J.D. was a former member of The Rick Rollers, and joined Ryan in efforts to help reach the sound of true greatness. He likes to model himself after Gun's and Roses' guitarist Slash, as can be seen in his on stage wardrobe. |
Joey Smith (age 18)
The bands bassist and promotional adviser. Joey is a former bassist of the Killjoys, a band from southern Texas. He came to William Penn to work on creating a career for being a manager for bands. While he is very talkative and very upfront about his problems with people, he is an all around good person and a great member of the band. |
Thomas Emery (age 19)
The bands drummer. Coming from a heavy band called Shovel Hill, He is known for his heavy, dark, mysterious habits. The was added to give the band that much needed edgy feel. |

The band usually just messed around, playing random stuff for live concerts, up until Mr. Smead called the band, and let Ryan know that he still has an album due on his contract. Ryan immediately started work on writing the music for the third album, but then realized that it was time for a change. All members then started writing their own music for the album, giving the entire feel of the album to be much darker than ever before (aside from a single song Joey wrote that was ska). This third album was decided to be the final album of the Hero of War albums, making a trilogy. This album was called “Darkness Falls.”
While this one was met with critics with the highest idea of the music, it was not as well received with the people of the world. The album still garnered up their greatest single ever, “Marching to War.” To follow up on the album, that summer the band toured all around the world, to places such as France, England, Germany, and even Pomsylvania. Back in the U.S. they kicked off their “Turn off The Lights Tour,” where the entire show was done with no lights on. The band had found true success.

Solo Album, Name Change, and a Return (Winds of Change)
Shortly after the end of the “Turn off the Lights” tour, Ryan started work on some experimental music. Using pre-recorded software, Ryan created “Winds of Change” an album which brings out a nicer lighter feel, in comparison to anything else that has been written by him before. It was met with mutual success. To keep things impact with the band, he releases the album under the name Poetic.
With the album having decent success, the band had decided to go on tour around the world once again, this time working with Thomas' former band Shovel Hill and Ryan using his solo project Poetic. While on tour, the drummer of Shovel hill had broken his hand, and Thomas stepped in to perform as their drummer again while on the tour. Acting as two bands drummers, Thomas was easily becoming worn out, and it had shown as the performances on the tour had became weaker. Ryan confronted Thomas about this problem, and they had gotten into a fight. Following the end of the tour, Thomas left Poetic to become the full time drummer of Shovel Hill.
Looking for a new drummer, Ryan contacted his brother Colin Poe, who had recently finished his high school and has decided to come to William Penn the next year. Colin was enthralled to rejoin the band he originally started with his brother, and was more than welcome to join again. With this new change, and the era of the Hero of War albums completed, Ryan had decided to change the name of the band to Poetic, to signify a fresh start.

Return to Form (Album 2012)
A new age has begun for the band Poetic. While they have been successful under their original name, they had yet to make an impact for themselves with the new name. The members went back into the studios to start work on what was going to become a new Hero Of War trilogy, but there was a divide between the band. While some members were welcome to making a new trilogy, others wanted this to become a fresh start and to move their projects to a new spotlight. This divide lead the band to leave the studio, only creating a few songs that could be deemed album worthy. Ryan wondered if this meant the end of his band, and the end of the road for his music career.
He saw a glimmer of hope though, through research, he found that a place called The Corner was having a battle of the bands competition. He quickly got the band back together and they played one of their new songs called "Last Light" for the fans. the fans loved the new song, and Poetic was able to win first place in the competition. One of creators of Battle of the Bands, Rick James, came up to Poetic, and gave them the offer of a lifetime.
"That was a very nice performance from your band, I am glad to say the crowd loved you, and so did I. I came up to you guys to offer you a bigger opportunity though. I am one of the members of the board of the POM Warped Tour, and we have been looking for one more band to be a headliner. Would you guys like to be that band?"
The band was stunned with amazement. They quickly accepted the offer, and began work on making a song that they felt the fans would really love. In the process, they created "Flaming Desire." The band packed their bags, and headed off on the POM Warped Tour. They were an instant success on the tour, giving the crowd what they wanted and more from a headliner. With renewed confidence, Poetic has returned to the studios, where they are currently, to work on their next album.
